da Shorty Awards honor da best people and organizations on twitter. dez unique awards are for da twitter community, by da twitter community. online voting iz public and democratic, culminating in an awards ceremony dat recognizes da winners in 27 official categories.

In February, da nominees will be narrowed down to five finalists in each category. winners will be determined by a combination of popular vote and by da members of da new Real-Time Academy of Short Form Arts & Sciences. an awards ceremony, complete wif 140-character acceptance speeches, will be held in March in New York City.

By now most peeps are aware of da devasting earthquake dat hit Haiti causing massive destruction and loss of life. Many organizations are gearing up to help in da rescue and relief efforts, including da World Organization for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. one of da fings i likes about mai furends on twitter iz how dey all put der own spechul spin on helpin' da anipals. fur example, @Romeothecat wuz da first anipal i nose to do fundraising fur shelters thru hiz monthly FurPower Challenges. @frugaldougal took dis concept and expanded it to monthly pawpawties to help anipal charities around da world. since den, several ofur anipals haf had mini-pawties to support der local shelters. In December, three anipals gots together to do da Santa Paws Drive, which supported six different anipal charities!

itz all very exciting to sees how a small group of furends can make a big difference to da anipals in need. And we r startin' da new year off wif a bang! first wif da New Year's Hangover Pawtyon January 1st, and den wif da Pawparade on January 3rd. i'll be spinnin' toons and hopin' to meet lots of new furends in 2010!
